Estimated birth date 16-June-2007
Pepe had been dropped off and ended up at a family home in Gunthrie Center, IA. When I first met Pepe it was a blisterly frozen day late January 2008. He weighed only 13 pounds, had open sores on his hip bones and lived outdoors (this was one of Iowas worst winters in many years). After ten months as my foster with Mid West Border Collie Rescue I decided to adopt him. Pepe had a condition called Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency and a Vascular Septal Defect, which scared most people away. He was a delight, very willing to work and loved his daddy so we decided he should live out his life with us.
On July 20, 2009 Pepe was diagnosed with diabetes,
which is very common in EPI dogs. Pepe was an emaciated 13 lbs when I rescued
him in late Jan 2008....in June 2009 he weighed 32 lbs.....on July 20th he died
an skinny 22lbs. Pepe was a very happy dog who never complained, lived life
to the fullest and did everything in fast motion. I am truly blessed
to have had him in my life.
It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are
